This course is for individuals who are keen to acquire the SG-Coach Programme certification towards being a professional Pickleball coach registered with the National Registry of Coaches (NROC).

Course Overview

The Singapore Coach Excellence (SG-Coach) Programme is an enhanced training and development pathway for all coaches in the community, clubs or high performance sport programmes, covering Theory, Sports Science and Technical.

This module covers the SG-Coach Technical Level 1 specific to the sport of Pickleball. designed for individuals who wish to coach novice participants in community and / or youth sport.


At the end of this module, you will learn about:

●      History and Key Rules of the Sport

●      Sports Specific Technical and Tactical Skills

●      Physical Training Specific to Pickleball

●      Sport Related Risk Management

●      Safe Sport


Training Type

Part Time Blended learning (complete self-paced e-learning on all modules at your own time and pace, followed by 3-day face-to-face classroom and practical sessions with rules and assessment.


Mode of Assessment

With reference to the end of the face-to-face sessions, to achieve "Competent" Grade in following portfolio submission

● Assignment portion - a 25 min Session Plan 

● Practical portion - Video of Coaching Session



Who Should Attend

This course is for individuals who are keen to acquire the SG-Coach Programme certification towards being a professional Pickleball coach registered with the National Registry of Coaches (NROC).


Course Duration

Blended learning (complete self-paced e-learning on all modules at your own time and pace, followed by 3-day face-to-face classroom and practical sessions with rules and assessment).

Schedule for self-paced e-learning shall be as follows,

Start – at least 2 months before Day 1 of face-to-face session

End – 3 days before Day 1 of face-to-face session

Registration Closing – 11 days before Day 1 of face-to-face session


Total Training Duration (Hour)

Total 32 hrs (Self Paced 8 hrs + Face-to-Face 24 hrs)

 

Classroom sessions shall be combined. Depending on number of participants, practical court sessions may be on separate dates.

Course Objectives

•Apply methods from Coaching Process to profile the participants, set out realistic goals and plan how to bridge the difference.

•Demonstrate ability and understanding to devise a GFL Session Plan.

•Demonstrate ability to plan extensively ahead of a session.

•Demonstrate ability for the deliberate planning for progressive and regressive activities.

•Demonstrates knowledge and ability to apply suitable coaching tools to facilitate one’s delivery and coaching.

•Deliver the Assignment Session Plan, demonstrating ability and understanding to deliver a GFL Session Plan and the sessions as planned.

•Demonstrate time management, group management and lesson delivery skills.

•Must include demonstration of the skill/tactic, showcasing own ability of that skill/tactic.

•Demonstrate Pickleball skills necessary for coaching, as well as the ability to coach during the assessment.

•Demonstrate understanding of “Teachable Moments”, “Observable Behaviours”, “Progression” and “Regression”.

•Demonstrate ability to keep students in the Learning Zone.

•A training and development system to develop high quality and professional coaches.

•Coaches trained in this programme will gain multi-dimensional skills in the area of sports science, coaching, life skills, evidence-based practices and will be able to promote social values and principles. 


Pre-requisites

Prior Learnings

● SG-Coach Theory Level 1 (including Values and Principles in Sports Integrated)

● Foundational Sport Science

● or equivalent as determined by CoachSG/SportSG

3. National Standards for Youth Sports (NSYS), Build Capacity of Coaches and Instructors (BCCI) workshop.


Skills

● Possess necessary Pickleball skills

● At least 1 year of pickleball play/competition experience

● Submit video demonstrating ability to perform all the basic skills below:

- Forehand and Backhand Strokes

- Serve (Volley and Drop)

- Drive

- Dink

- Drop

- Consistent in feeding another player

Additional Notes

The online self-paced e-learning is a prerequisite to clear attending the face-to-face classroom/court sessions. Participants shall complete the modules during the e-learning schedule at their own pace. Participants shall not be allowed to attend the face-to-face classroom/court sessions without clearing the prerequisites.

There shall be No Refund / No Reschedule.

Assessment shall be by submission of Session Plan Assignment and the subsequent delivery of the Session Plan for Practical Coaching Assessment.


Assessment Schedule

With reference to the end of the face-to-face sessions, schedule of submission of portfolio shall be as follows to achieve "Competent" Grade in following portfolio submission:


1) Assignment portion - a 25 min Session Plan 

●  2nd week after - Session Plan Assignment to be submitted for review and feedback.

●  4th week after - Final submission of Session Plan Assignment. Participants must achieve “Competent” grade before they are able to proceed to arrange for Coaching Assessment. Failure to submit or achieve “Competent” grade by this deadline shall be a Failure for the course.

2) Practical portion - Video of Coaching Session

●  6th week after – Submission of clear recording with clear audio of delivery, interactions and coaching actions for the session plan, for review.

●  8th week after – Final submission of revised recording. Failure to submit or achieve “Competent” grade by this deadline shall be a Failure for the course.

 

Note - poor recording, unclear audio, that is unable to showcase the objectives of the assessment shall be a Failure for the course.
